Pierce Kelley has been keeping a full schedule lately.

Since the start of the year he has opened a new law office and released Asleep at the Wheel, his latest novel.

The new office at 3011 D Street in the old Cactus Rose Coffee Shop specializes in family law and consumer protection matters like deceptive lending practices in mortgages and credit cards. As a former associate at Three Rivers Legal in Gainesville he hopes to use his vast experience to assist residents of Cedar Key with their legal matters.

As for his writing, Mr. Kelley says that he’s always enjoyed the unique character and environment of Cedar Key and finds it a great place to write. Kelley says the pressures and hassles found in cities are not as common here and fewer distractions allow him get to his writing.

His books can best be described as legal thrillers. Like Fist Fight at the L & M Saloon and Bocas Del Toro, his latest novel makes significant mention of Cedar Key. It’s the story of a case that results from an auto accident that kills one of two friends returning from a Cedar Key fishing trip. His writing mixes everyday situations that anyone could find themselves in with the intrigue of detective work and the suspense of the court room.

Mr. Kelley’s books can be found for purchase at the Cedar Key Market, Fishbones and the Island Woods Gift Shop on Dock Street. He will gladly autograph copies of his book for anyone that stops by his office. A book signing is planned at the Coffee Culture shop in Gainesville on Saturday Jan. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.
