The Cedar Key Lions Club sponsored its Annual Community Health Fair at the Cedar Key Community Center this past Friday.
Members of the community attended to take advantage of the free health screenings and resources available to participants.
Free health screenings included blood pressure and diabetes screenings, oxygen level evaluations, free telephones for the hearing impaired along with hearing and vision screening in the Ocala Lions Vision Van manned by Lions Audrey and Jim Hall and Rich Lytle. Blood tests provided by LABCORP included: Comprehensive Metabolic tests (14 tests) for $10 and a Lipid Panel for $10 (fasting is recommended for both of these) as well as a PSA test for $5, and a Complete Blood Count for $5.
Other free offerings were Bone Density screening, helpful Wellness information and information about the services of the Levy County EMS system and the Levy County Health Dept.
Area health care providers and representatives from the Medicaid Department of Children and Families, Gentiva Home Healthcare, and Senior Homecare Services, Haven Hospice, Ayers Health & Rehabilitation facility, Suwannee River Area Health Education Center, The Center for Independent Living, the Levy County Health Department, AARP and others had information and staffed booths at the Fair.
A brunch of steel cut Irish oatmeal and a variety of healthy muffins generated $156 in cash and donated bags of groceries to benefit the Cedar Key Food Pantry.
