Jobs numbers drop in Levy

-A A +A

Fewer people in workforce as unemployment reaches new low

By The Staff

The news on employment for Levy County residents during November is good, depending on how you look at the numbers.

Over the month, the number of people in the county’s labor force, the number of individuals employed and the number of individuals who were jobless fell slightly, according to figures released by Workforce Connection, the state’s career agency for Levy, Marion and Citrus counties.

Workforce Connection CEO Rusty Skinner characterized the report as a “mixed bag,” noting it is difficult to determine what accounts for shrinkage in the labor force and number of employed over the month, but that “gains over the year are encouraging.”

Unemployment in Levy dropped by 0.2 percent to 7.2 percent from October to November.

It compares favorably with the 8.8 percent rate in November 2012.

And it compares favorably with the 7 percent in June 2008.

The unemployment rate for the three-county region served by Workforce Connection was 7.1 percent in November, down 0.2 percent from the month before and 1.9 percent lower than the same time last year.

Florida’s seasonally adjusted rate is 6.4 percent and the non-adjusted rate is 6.2 percent; the national rate, adjusted, is 7.0 percent and non-adjusted is 6.6 percent.
