Dear Editor, Levy County Friends, Business Owners and Community Leaders,
As a concerned resident and member of the Cedar Key Energy Advisory Panel (EAP), I am writing to you to encourage you to attend an upcoming educational seminar that is planned for Oct. 22, from 1-3 p.m., at the Cedar Key Community Center on “Alternative Ways to Manage Solid Waste (trash & recycling).” As our waste hauling contract runs out in the spring of 2010, now is the time for us to be thinking about more economical and environmentally friendly ways to manage our solid waste.
The seminar is co-sponsored by the City of Cedar Key and the EAP. Topics to be discussed include the nationally recognized Pay-As-You-Throw (P-A-Y-T) program that has been implemented in over 7000 locations throughout the US resulting in significant reductions in solid waste disposal volume and expense, and increased recycling; Volume Based Solid Waste Collection; an
A Integrated Yard Waste and Composting Program that reduces disposal costs by eliminating transfer of yard waste and provides composted materials to residents; a Public Education Strategy to Embrace Zero Waste in your Community and Curbside Recycling.
It is my hope that through this seminar we can educate our ourselves and community leaders so that we all can make more informed decisions about solid waste management in Levy County.
