Helping vets heal away from home

-A A +A

Eileen Senecal of the Cedar Key Woman’s Club presents a check for $2,000 to Patti Fabiani, executive director of the Gainesville Fisher House Foundation. During 2012 and 2013 the ladies of the club have raffled off two quilts as a fundraiser for the soon to be built Fisher House. The first quilt to be raffled was made by several of the local

ladies and the second quilt was made and donated by Judy Byrne, a female

veteran from Texas. So far the ladies of the CKWC have donated $4,500 to

this worthy cause. Fisher House will open later this year in Gainesville,

and it will be the home for vets and their families who live more than 50 miles away during their time of medical treatment at the Gainesville VA Medical Center. The Club is continuing its “Support Our Troops” program, but now will be also in support of this "home away from home" for our veterans and their families in need.
