Happy post-Seafood Festival – we all know what I mean. We love our town so much that we love to see the business and folks enjoy what we have. We love to see the festival come in and we love to watch it leave (ha-ha). It is a great event and weekend that brings friends and families together from all over. But it’s nice to get our boat ramp and streets back (ha-ha).
Well, the big news for the week is mackerel. Spanish and king mackerel are on the crawl and bait is strong and the mac numbers are big. Lots of fish are over 20-inches, some way over and closer to 30-inches. In just a four hour trip the other day we boated over 30 keeper Spanish macs and hooked three king macs.
We spooled off a big boy and lost a 30-ish pounder boat side. And Cinnamon boated a 20-plus pounder. All fish were caught on light tackle. The folks kept five keepers and released the rest back. It was a good time with loads of action.
We also saw an increase with the trout this week as cooling water temperatures will boost the bite more each week. Most fish are healthy and will fall to a cork and jig rig.
Folks, have a great recovery week and hope all is well. And remember, keep real and keep it salty.
