Brain child of local Realtor and Lion - Jennie Pinto
In Another's Shoes is a new community chest fund established at Drummond Community Bank in Cedar Key to help pay gasoline costs for Cedar Key area residents with medical needs that require frequent trips to doctors and medical facilities.
The project is the brain child of Lion Jennie Pinto, who saw a need for such help and enlisted Lion’s support for a kickoff fundraiser dinner to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at the Cedar Key Community Center on 6th street from 5-7:30 p.m. The $10 dinner features fried chicken by Lioness Thelma McCain, as well as, macaroni salad, baked beans, coleslaw and rolls. You can eat in or carry out.
A three-person administrative committee, including Lion Heath Davis of Drummond Community Bank and medical advisor Eileen Senecal of Palms Medical, will evaluate applications and administer the fund. Upon approval, gas cards will be given to Cedar Key area residents based on their medical condition and the need to travel for medical treatment. Gas cards will also be available to volunteers who are willing to relieve family members from daily or weekly drives.
"We are a small community and we often know who is in need of our gifts, but if a neighbor knows of a potential recipient, please let either Lion Heath or Eileen know, and you can remain anonymous," says project initiator Jennie Pinto. "We hope this will become an ongoing community project. We have all seen the need, and often the need is present long before the fund raising and help can be organized. We hope this project will be there and in place when the time comes for emergency travel assistance," she continued.
Donations to the In Another's Shoes fund may also be made directly to the fund at Drummond Community Bank in Cedar Key.
