Five men have been cited for harvesting oysters at a South Levy County location following a plainclothes operation conducted by Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officers.
Following information developed by officers, two officers dressed in plain clothes and with an unmarked vessel observed two commercial oyster vessels with five people on board enter a creek.
According to an FWC report, the five men were observed harvesting oysters from the prohibited area and culling the oysters while inside the creek.
The plainclothes officers performed an inspection of both vessels and determined that they were also in possession of undersized oysters.
Misdemeanor citations were issued Sept. 9 and the oysters were returned to the water.
Cited were: Braxton Curtis Chisholm, Robert Calhoun Hartsfield, Rondal Lee Hartsfield, Wayne Brandon Messer and Gregory Lynn Starkey.
They are due in Levy County Court for arraignment on Oct. 22.
The two violations on each ticket carry a $600 fine plus fees.
