As soon as school started this fall, the Cedar Key Senior FFA Forestry Team started practicing after school and on weekends. The FFA Forestry Contest is one of the most competitive contests in Florida.

“In our district alone, we must beat 26 other schools just to move on to state finals,” said Denny Voyles, Cedar key FFA Advisor.

After two months of preparation,  the team placed first in its district competition, advancing them to the state finals.

The state finals, held in Perry, pit the top 12 teams in the state against each other.

This year, Cedar Key landed third in the state with a young team of three sophomores and one junior.

Team members inlcude Taryn Epperson,  Michael Shewey,  Kit Riley and Laia Gore.

You can rest assured that this team will return next year with even more resolve, Voyles added.
