The fishin’ was there if you braved the conditions

Hey everyone, hope everybody enjoyed the weekend. It was beautiful for everything except fishin’.
If flying a kite was the plan last weekend, then you probly flew it till it fell apart.
Most charter captains canceled their trips Saturday, but no, not us. We said anyone can catch fish when it’s pretty and perfect. So we headed inside the backcountry to stay clear of the kite flying weather.
I must say, I kinda impressed myself at how much I remembered from many years back fishing the insides as a teenager. We boated eight very healthy keeper trout, missed a nice redfish and sight-fished a small pod of black drum for about a hour before giving up. They just weren’t into eating a rubber crab.
The other days last week were spent out in the flats where the big numbers of trout still rule. Also saw a big bull shark eat a trout  and a tarpon jump. So every week more spring time appearances are made. I’m still not seeing much bait for whatever reason. Good news is the trout are eating real good because of that, but it’s slowing down the spring swing.
This week, Southern Salt Charters will be representing the area once again on the "Reel Animals" fishing show. We will be targeting as big of redfish as we can find using all artificial baits. Hope the weather cooperates and we are able to produce some awesome footage. We will keep ya posted.
Check out the pics from last week and enjoy your Easter weekend. See ya’ll on the salt.
