Cedar Key Community residents are invited to do their part to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply during the holidays by teaming up with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers at a blood drive on Friday, Dec. 7. Stop by the bloodmobile at City Hall between 1 and 5 p.m. and make a contribution that can save up to three lives in local hospitals.
Cedar Key High School will host the bloodmobile from 9 a.m. to noon on the same day, which is the anniversary of the attack on American military forces at Pearl Harbor by the Japanese military. Student donors are part of a High School Blood Drive Challenge with area high schools.
Donors are asked to eat a healthy meal, particularly breakfast, and drink plenty of fluids before donating. All donors will receive a gift and be entered in a drawing to win an iPad Mini. Drawing for the iPad Mini will take place on Dec. 24. Student donors also receive community service hours. Donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more, and show a valid photo I.D. at the time of donation. Sixteen-year-olds must have written parental consent to donate. For more information, call 352-334-1000.
Keep the giving going! When you give blood, LifeSouth will donate an adorable plush Beau the Bloodhound to a child in need in our local community.
