Empty Bowls Dinner is Wednesday

-A A +A

By Donna Beach

The second annual Empty Bowls Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday,  Jan. 30, from 5-7 p.m. at the Fellowhip Hall of the Methodist Church.  Empty Bowls, chaired by local potter Amy Gernhardt, is a unique opportunity to purchase a one-of-a-kind bowl, hand-crafted by local artists and students, with all proceeds going to support the Cedar Key Community Food Pantry.

Volunteers will serve delicious soups, savory salads, and choice desserts – all prepared and donated by local cooks – on an all-you-care-to-eat-basis.

Attendees decide for themselves how much they would like to pay for their bowl, which they keep at the end of the meal. Take-away will be available for those who wish, or the dinner may be enjoyed without purchasing a pottery bowl.

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger.  Fund-raisers take place all over the country and in at least a dozen international settings.  Gernhardt, upon learning of the event, knew it would be a perfect match between the local art community and the Cedar Key Food Pantry.  Last year’s inaugural event was very popular and there is hope for a sell-out this year.

Our local Food Pantry currently serves over 40 families (approximately 100 individuals) per week, with food supplies to help supplement what their budget cannot afford.  Come enjoy fellowship, food, and take home some fantastic pottery while benefiting a great cause!
