Dogs in restaurants to be addressed next month

The City Commission is working to pass an ordinance that will allow dogs in the outside seating areas of local restaurants.

Ordinance 469 was on the City Commission’s agenda Tuesday night for the first reading, but it was determined that because of the way statutes are written, the ordinance must first come before the Local Planning Agency (a board the city commissioners also sit on, similar to the Community Redevelopment Agency board).

The LPA will hold a special meeting July 6, the evening of the regular CRA board meeting. The LPA will then choose whether to recommend the ordinance to the City Commission for adoption. If an adoption is recommended, the City will hold its first reading of the ordinance when it reconvenes as the City Commission (also a special meeting that night) immediately following the LPA meeting that evening.
