The Artist of the Month at the Cedar Keyhole in Cedar Key FL. is Gainesville artist, Sheila Thomas.  Sheila is principally known for her photographs of Cedar Key and environs. The photos are both in black and white and color and most are framed and ready to hang. She also creates bowls, vases, mugs and plates in ceramic. Both mediums are highlighted in the gallery this month.

The Cedar Keyhole, a 23 artist co-op, is located on 2nd St. in the historic clam farming village of Cedar Key. The gallery is open 7 days a week  from  10 AM to 5 PM, except on Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Summer Art program

The Cedar Key Arts Center Children’s Art Camp  began Monday, July 15 and runs through Friday, July 26.

There are a variety of fun and educational art activities planned for this camp that should bring out the inner artist in all participants.

All of the art instruction days begin at 9 a.m. and concludes at 11 a.m.  

CKAC Teen Summer Art Camps are being held Monday, July 15 through Friday, July 26. Class times for all of the camps are from 1-3 p.m. for each of the camps.

The final day of classes is Friday, July 26, when all artwork created during the summer program will be on display. Parents and family members are encouraged to attend. The students’ artwork will go home with them that day.

Registrations are closed for this years’ program. Parent letters are going out to all registered participants.

Arts festival contest entries due Aug. 1

Entires for the poster and T-shirt design for the 50th Annual Old Florida Celebration of the Arts at Cedar Key are due Aug. 1.

The chosen entry will be used to promote the April 12-14, 2014, event in the form of postcards, poster, T-shirts, brochures etc.  

The theme for the 50th anniversary is The Honeymoon Cottage. Submissions can be in any medium and of any time period.

‘Let’s Get Outside’

Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge will host the popular “Let’s Get Outside” for kids ages 7-14 – and it’s all free. Join Ranger Pam Darty for a hayride into the Refuge, discover native critters that live in the swamps and uplands, then hike out to the Suwannee River. Bring your lunch and drink for a picnic. Yoga and Pilates at the Library

Intermediate Yoga (CDs, some yoga experience helpful, free), Mon., Weds. and Friday, 8-9:30 a.m. at the CK Library.

Pilates (intermediate, free) - Tuesdays and Thursdays 

8-8:30 a.m. at the CK Library.


Zumba offered twice a week

Zumba Fitness with Sarah Beth will be offered at the Cedar Key Community Center, 809 6th Street. This program is designed for everyone - all ages, sizes and fitness levels. Operation PETSNIP
