Coffee now available on 2nd Street
Java lovers can now enjoy a cup of fresh ground coffee at the Barefoot Artist Gallery located on historic 2nd Street.
“Customers can get coffee-to-go or sit at tables and enjoy the art,” said Carmen Day, artist, owner, and operator of the gallery. Those who prefer to sip outdoors will find themselves well accommodated in the garden area. “When the weather’s good (it) should be nice to sit out there,” Day said.
No complicated, fancy, specialty javas will be served, Day cautioned: “just good specialty roasted coffee.” The shop features fresh, hot, organic Sweetwater coffee. Day chose to serve the brand because it is organic and imported from farmers who have received fair trade for their labor. She is proud to offer aficionados “a simple, good cup of coffee.”
Day got the idea for the coffee shop from art patrons. “With no coffee shop in town, people are always asking me where to go.” She plans on trying out different blends from different areas of the world until she finds the one people like most.
Given food regulations, one longstanding gallery rule will change. “I’m going to have to move my sign in the window that says ‘bare feet allowed,’” Day said.
