CK Woman’s Club brings home the ribbons

-A A +A

On Feb. 18, the Cedar Key Woman’s Club once more came home beribboned from the Gainesville Arts and Crafts day.
Each year, the CKWC participates in a District Florida Federation of Woman’s Clubs competition, where first place winners from 17 different communities compete.
Joyce Patti headed the year-long Arts Drive, encouraging all members to contribute work, which was first seen at the Arts Luncheon at the Community Hall in January. Twenty-one pieces of art - blue ribbon winners that day - then went on to compete with District work from High Springs to Melrose to Gainesville to the Crystal River Woman’s Club.
This year, Cedar Key’s prize winners included Honorable Mentions for Vicki Crumpley’s photography, Jan Hendrix’ mosaic tray, Christine Black’s decorator pillowcases, Sue Casey’s knitted scarf and Diane Taylor’s red hat.
Red ribbons were awarded to Kate Wyrosdick’s painting, Vicki Crumpley’s and Susan Roquemore’s photography, Joan Selby’s pottery, Eileen Senecal’s knitted purse and her quilt, Judy Duvall’s Fabric Craft and Rosemary Danesi’s machine embroidery.
First place blue ribbon winners are eligible for the Florida State Convention in Orlando in May and the Cedar Key Woman’s Club is proudly sponsoring four members: Kate Wyrosdick’s mixed media painting, “Morning Marina”; Joyce Patti’s drawing, “Spirit Pottery“; Teri Brennan’s photo feature, “It won’t hurt!”; and Cindy Leiner’s beaded bracelet.
The Cedar Key Woman’s Club is currently working on a patriotic quilt project, which will be displayed for the first time at the March 15 Fashion Show and will be raffled off (in support of its Fisher House fund-raising) at the Old Florida Celebration of the Arts.
