Fifty-seven items have been donated to the Greater Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce's annual Labor Day weekend auction and sponsors have until today, Aug. 2, to donate and sign on.
This year's event has a pirate theme and participants are asked to dress appropriate to the occasion. Businesses are asked to adopt the pirate theme for the weekend by dressing up and decorating their business.
The Chamber is also trying to organize a golf cart parade for Saturday and are looking for volunteers to help manage this event because so many volunteers are involved in organizing the auction.
Please let us know if your business will participate in the Pirate weekend or if you can help with the parade.
The chamber has signed up 17 Gold Bullion and 17 Silver Doubloon sponsors. Andrea Dennison, president of the Chamber, told members in an email this week that the Chamber has contacted people who had attended last year and many are returning.
“We know that this year’s event will be well attended,” she wrote. “We are also emailing everyone who has signed our guest registry for the last year — over 2,000.”
The Jolly Roger Treasure Auction will be at The Island Room with auction pre-view beginning at 12:30. There will be room for 100 to 150 guests.
This event raises the monies necessary to fund the operations of The Welcome Center through December. The operations of The Welcome Center costs $43,000 per year. Chamber dues only cover about a third of this amount.
