Residents of Cedar Key are one step closer to once a week garbage pick up and curbside recycling. During a packed special meeting Tuesday night, City Commissioners voted to accept Waste Pro’s bid for unit based-pricing, once a week residential garbage service, once a week curbside recycling, and bulk item pick up. Commercial customers will continue to have the option of twice or three times a week garbage pick up in addition to once a week curbside recycling service. Under the new agreement, Waste Pro will provide the garbage carts and the City will pay the landfill’s tipping fees. The contract includes an evaluation period to determine if once a week service is sufficient for the residential community’s needs. Over the next month and a half, commissioners will work out the details of the plan and determine the monthly fees according to the unit based pricing system. The change is expected take effect in May.
