In their first-ever competition, the Cedar Key School Varsity Cheer Squad proved themselves ready by winning first place in their class nationally. The squad’s two-and-a-half minute routine featured cheering, tumbling, jumping and dance.

“We are the Contest of Champions Small High School National Champions,” said coach Kim Bishop.

The awards were presented Saturday night at the Wide World of Disney Sports Complex. The girls received a trophy, banner, and plaque that are all on display at the school.

“This is the first time that any squad has competed from Cedar Key School,” Bishop said.

CKS Squad members include seniors Michelle DiMaggio and Jordan Watson, juniors Lacy Coulter, Aubrey Pope and Amber White, and freshman Savannah Beckham. Melissa Casto is assistant coach to Kim Bishop.
