The board of Central Florida Electric Co-op, donning hardhats, were gold shovel-ready Monday afternoon as they posed for the groundbreaking ceremony at the new location for the operations center in Chiefland.
The new building will be 32,000 square feet and house a variety of departments that are located in several buildings in Chiefland. It will include system operations, member services, engineering and a two-lane drive-thru for making payments.
Tim Hastings, Member Service Supervisor, explained that it will be more user friendly and have better parking, which will also be safer for customers coming to the office.
When asked about the possibility of solar panels for the large expanse of roof, he said, “It depends on the budget. Maybe.”
The building was designed by Brame Architects, who designed the building CFEC currently occupies. Construction should take about 18 months, putting the move in date around late summer of 2012. Gray Construction Services will be the general contractor.
