Cedar Key Woman’s Club does it again

-A A +A

The Cedar Key Woman’s Club held its Annual Luncheon & Fashion Show on March 15, entertaining over 150 women.  The ladies just can’t be beat with their efforts to support local charities and raise funds for the scholarship for a Cedar Key young lady graduate.
This year, 14 models were strutting their stuff, wearing fashions from the local consignment shop, Déjá Vu.  With the assistance of Nancy Stephens, the shop’s owner, CKWC members and some “snowbird” lady friends, as well as our local teens and a young mom with all four of her children -and we mustn’t forget Suzie the pooch – wowed the crowd.  Food, fun, shopping, music, prizes and the most wonderful desserts made for a memorable day in our island community.
The theme was patriotic from beginning to end – music, models, decorations and of course the annual visit from Ms. Tacky Tourist who can always bring smiles to the ladies’ faces.
Fundraising efforts for the Fisher House of Gainesville as well as the CKWC Support Our Troops program were in the limelight.  Not only did the club meet their goal for the Fisher House donation, but the $500 prize raffle winner was Susan Hollandsworth. Care Packages with an Easter theme were on display to be sent to our deployed troops. Also displayed was a king-size patriotic-themed quilt made by the CKWC ladies and friends to be raffled off the weekend of the Old Florida Celebration of the Arts, April 28-29.  A beautiful “relaxation basket” drawing was won by Marie Evans, a CKWC past president.
The afternoon ended with a visit from Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty (Judy Duvall and Eileen Senecal), with the entire audience singing God Bless The U.S.A.! It was a day of flag waving  patriotism, at its finest – and the CKWC wishes to extend thanks to all their sponsors and supporters for this gala event!
