Cedar Key’s Elite Redfish Challenge

-A A +A
By Danny Allen

Well folks, we are looking at wrapping up January pretty soon and it has been a pretty laid back weather pattern. Hope February is the same, but maybe a little more cold weather would be okay by me. The rain we are getting with these fronts is important.

The trout fishing remains good for this time of year. These warm spells are really helping there. The redfish for us non-airboaters are still a little scattered. The inshore sheephead bite looks to be around normal but should increase as we move forward.

I want to take this time to introduce my new Elite Redfish Challenge. It’s a Redfish Circuit that is fished here locally. It’s a one-day, two-man event that, at the end of a four-tournament season, will crown a Team of the Year Award. The team with the most added-up pounds wins. This is its first season and it’s shaping up to be a good one so far.

The Elite Redfish Challenge is a series to be built to join anglers and businesses to come together and promote each other. It’s a chance for each party to promote and scratch each other’s backs in a tough economical time. The goals are simple: build a salty playground for the anglers and give the area and the businesses with local products a chance for added exposure.
