The county is moving ahead with making improvements to George T. Lewis Airport, opening bids on April 25 for new fencing and a project to provide erosion control and restoration of 155 feet of shoreline near the end of a runway.
County Coordinator Fred Moody gave the Levy County Commission an update on the plans and the results of a public meeting held on the island on April 2 where residents voiced concerns about the fencing proposal, its affect on property values, the relocation of County Road 470 and plans for improving the airport and its operation.
