Robinson's Seafood to help raise money

By Ada Lang

Cedar Key doesn’t give up, no matter what the situation that faces the community. The lack of city funding for the July 4 fireworks show hasn’t stopped residents and business owners from trying to fill the gap.

When the ClamAmerica event was put on ice this year, the Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce stepped in to sponsor an event in the park on the Fourth. But, that day is not complete without fireworks.

The Chamber is helping raise money so city can purchase fireworks and the volunteer fire department can go on with the show on July 4.To date, over $7,000 has been pledged. But a minimum $10,000 is needed and they must know they have enough money by early June to place the order.

Eve and Carl Robinson of Robinson's Seafood on State Road 24 are sponsoring a fish fry with all the fixings and tea for $8. All proceeds go to the fireworks fund. The fireworks fish fry will be at their store from 1-6 p.m. on Monday, May 30.

Ada Blue Cafe is supplying the coleslaw and they are looking for and individuals to donate baked goods to sell.

The Robinson's need one important item: the fish, specifically 600 mullet — by Monday. They have started fishing but are hoping that anyone who is adept at catching mullet will help with the catching and cleaning.

To donate contact Eve Robinson at 543-5051.
