Fishin' with Capt'n. Danny Allen

By Danny Allen

Hey guys and gals, I hope everyone had some good old quality time with the family on Easter. Some took the day to go fishing as it was a little windy the rest of the day was pretty nice.

Although the big news of the week is the weather, on Saturday words like beautiful, perfect and glorious can’t get much better. And my personal favorite, “That’s what I’m talking about”, all describe the weather Saturday. The fishing was just the same – “That’s what I’m talking about”!

We had a mixed group of cousin’s and mom’s family out of Gainesville that slap wore out the speckled trout. We boated around 150 fish with 40 being keepers they held on to their allotted 25 and released the rest.

My afternoon trip was a new group from Clermont – and what an awesome family. The 11-year-old son, Dewitt, ended up being the man of the day. And folks he was quite happy.

I made a little appearance to the north end of things for some pre-fishing of the redfish species and found some pretty darn big reds – oversized being the issue – but fun nonetheless. Things will steadily get better as we enter and settle into April and these winds hopefully lay down a bit.

Also, we have our second Elite Redfish Challenge event this weekend up north in Steinhatchee. We’re hoping to have a mini weigh-in show like the Cedar Key event on Aug. 10. Please make sure to save the date we will be at the City Park. Again, Aug. 10, big weigh-in show at the Cedar Key City Park – don’t miss it. Also, feel free to like us on Facebook on our fan page, thanks!

That’s all I got this week. Y’all enjoy those good days and make lemonade from lemons on the bad ones.
